Step Up For Mental Health®: Changing minds about mental health and its impact on families
Step Up For Mental Health® is a peer-to-peer advocacy group providing support, assistance, and education. First, we support individuals dealing with a mental health disorder. Secondly, we assist family members caring for someone with a mental illness and, thirdly, we educate the public on mental health issues. We are here to share personal stories and help others make sense of the stigma and fear associated with illnesses like depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
We know there are many misconceptions about how to best help family members and caregivers understand and manage day-to-day challenges. We address many issues relating to mental health including: the impact on families, the impact on kids and teens in school, poverty, hunger, homelessness, job loss, the elderly, mental health stigmas and loneliness.
Providing Support and Services
Mental health touches a variety of groups and backgrounds. Our goal is to make life easier for all families dealing with mental health issues. If a parent is struggling to feed, clothe, or pay for school essentials like books, school trips or monthly bus passes, Step Up For Mental Health® can provide a living grant to help families in need offset these costs.
If a parent is struggling to find services, peers and support groups to help deal with a child, teen or young adult, our mission is to find a solution to their needs.
We know there are communities impacted by mental health who are especially prone to issues like depression, pain and isolation: poor people, people of color, the elderly, bisexuals (Bi+ community), and people with disabilities. See our Programs and Services page for more information.
