Discover How You Can Support Your Family and Community by Becoming a Mental Health First Aider!
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an early intervention public education program. It is an evidence-based training created by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing designed to teach adults how to recognize the signs and symptoms that suggest a potential mental health challenge, how to listen nonjudgmentally, and show empathy and to give reassurance to a person who may be experiencing a crisis and how to refer a person to appropriate professional support and services.
Step Up For Mental Health provides a MHFA certification course for individuals who want to learn more about mental health. If you wish to gain a better understanding of yourself as a caregiver or to assist someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, this course is for you. Completing this course can equip you with the tools to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health challenges and help connect those in need with appropriate resources.
Step Up For Mental Health’s Mission
Our mission is to help families and communities better understand mental health. With a clearer understanding of mental health and its complications, families will be better equipped to find appropriate support and solutions. This involves breaking down stigmas and myths associated with mental health and recognizing the impact of poverty, childhood trauma, and intergenerational factors.
By having conversations about mental health in your community, you can remove stigma and help others understand the signs and symptoms. You can also assist your loved ones in finding resources and preventative tools and recognize when caregivers need to take action when mental health stressors arise in the home.
Some of the People Who Take Mental Health First Aid Training Include:
Families members, health care workers, staff who deal with underserved individuals like the unhoused, nurses, social workers, teachers, family caregivers, and first responders, just to name a few.
Mental health has affected communities in unprecedented ways. Please take action now and register for our MHFA certification course. Space is limited, so act fast!
